Pembroke Reads! On the Same Page program.

Three Cups of TeaThree Cups of Tea by Greg Mortenson was the title selected for the very first town wide reading program in Pembroke.

 

 

The story is available for all ages to enjoy! We have them, and we have the adult and teen version in audio too!

List of Events were:

Friday, March 12, 4 pm. For children ages 6 and up: Painting Teacups.

Monday, March 22, 7 pm. Rachel Williams discusses women's rights in Afghanistan.

Saturday, April 3, 1 pm. Two Movies: The Miseducation of Pakistan and A School of Their Own.

Monday, April 5, 7 pm. Mariam Raqib of the nonprofit group Barakat will discuss the education work they do in the area.
Photographs of their schools and the people they work with and help will be on display during April.

Tuesday, April 6, 7pm. Karim Nagi performs Arab and Muslim music. Not to be missed!

Wednesday, April 7, 7 pm. John Martini of Colony Rugs discusses Pakistani and Afghani rugs.

Friday, April 9, 3:30 pm. Children 6 and up will be "Making Tea Cup Cards."

Monday, April 12, 7:00 pm. Three Cups of Tea book discussion.

Thursday, April 15, 6:30 pm. Parent&Child Book Discussion of Three Cups of Tea. The children have their own version!

Wednesday, April 21, 1:00 pm. Children 6 and up will be "Making Peace Flags" and read Listen to the Wind.

Monday, April 26, 7 pm. We will watch the documentary "The Beauty Academy of Kabul."


Pennies for Peace : Several locations and churches around town will join us in collecting Pennies for Peace. The money raised goes to the schools Greg Mortenson and the Central Asia Institute have built!

 

How to join in :

Read or listen to the book. In the three years since it was published, thousands of people have read it and been touched by the message.

Come to a program, or come to them all!

This is Pembroke's first town wide reading program! We plan many more.
