Pembroke Public Schools: Summer Assignments

Keep up with education and imagination all summer long to limit the effects of the "summer slide." The summer slide is a decline in reading ability and other academic skills that can occur over the summer months when school isn’t in session. Numerous studies show that kids who don’t read during summer vacation actually slip in reading ability by the time autumn rolls around.
All Pembroke Public School Students may visit the Summer Information Quick Links for elementary, middle, and high school students and a Summer Learning Guide with resources and activities to engage children and teens in math, writing, reading, coding, and more.
Pembroke High School Students: Visit PHS's Summer Work page to review reading and assignment requirements for your upcoming grade and/or classes.
Pembroke Community Middle School Students: Rising 7th and 8th grade students are expected to select and read a book, either from the recommended list or one of their choosing, then answer six selected questions. The questions and recommended book list are on the PCMS Summer Reading page. Need other recommendations? Visit our Quick Picks for Middle School list!

Elementary Students (entering grades 1 - 3): The PPS Summer Literacy page provides 6 weeks of resources that you can use to review literacy skills with your child, including games and printable practice sheets.
Elementary Students (entering grades K - 6): Two recommended reading lists (linked below) are available for all students; these lists were created as a collaboration between the local schools and your library. Students also have access to LexiaCore5, an online reading skills program.
The above two lists are PDF documents. If you do not see anything after clicking/tapping, please check your downloads folder.
The Massachusetts Statewide Summer Library Program is funded by the Massachusetts Library System, the Boston Bruins, the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners, and your local library.
